Text Reminder System – please supply your mobile number

October 11th, 2011

We are trialling a text reminder system for our pre-booked appointments.  This means that any patient who has supplied us with a mobile phone number will be sent a text message the day before the appointment.  If your appointment is on a Monday, this will be sent on the preceding Friday.

The format of the message will give you a date, time and indicate whether the appointment is at the Brixham Surgery or the Galmpton Surgery.  If the same mobile number is supplied to us for more than one patient, the text will not specify who the booked appointment is for.

Patients can update their mobile number when contacting the surgery or use the change of details form available on our website.

Any patient wishing to supply a mobile number for our records as a contact number but not wanting to receive text reminders can opt-out of this service by request.

From time to time, we may need to communicate ad-hoc information to patients such as closures for staff training.

Carers Support Worker

August 24th, 2011

Do you care for someone, whether they are a husband, wife, relative, friend or neighbour?

You may not be aware that Compass House has a Carers Support Worker.  Mary works at our Brixham Surgery between 1.30pm and 5.00pm on a Wednesday afternoon.

Patients who are carers or who are cared for can have a flag put on their record making our staff aware when we load your record.

The role of the Carer Support Worker is to identify carers and offer them help and support.  Carer Support Workers understand the physical and emotional pressures of being a carer.

Mary can help with:-

Information about practical support
Referring you to finance benefits advice
Linking to Carers Support Group
Helping you to get a break

If you need to speak to, or make an appointment to see Mary, please contact reception and leave a contact number for Mary to call you back.

If necessary, Mary can arrange to meet you at the surgery or visit you at home.

Barcoded Prescriptions (Electronic Prescription Service)

June 28th, 2011

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be starting to print most prescriptions with a barcode printed along the white strip on the right hand side of the green portion of your prescription.

This barcode is for the use of the pharmacy who can import the information into their computer system.

The barcode is used in the first phase of the Electronic Prescriptions Service.  Eventually, the Electronic Prescriptions Service will allow patients to nominate a pharmacy to receive an electronic version of their prescriptions without a piece of paper being generated.

Ordering Repeat Medicines Early

June 22nd, 2011

Most repeat medicines are prescribed for a 28 day time period.  As published our timescale to turn these around for collection is two working days.  For those wishing for a pharmacy to collect the prescription from us and deliver (if applicable), you need to allow extra time for this.

We receive a large number of requests for repeat medicines on a daily basis.  This is either via the telephone, reporting to reception, dropping a repeat card into the surgery, via our website or via the Waiting Room.  Sometimes via any of these requesting methods, we notice that the items are being ordered very early.  For those requesting electronically or dropping a repeat card to the surgery, we do not know if there is a good reason for requesting the item early.

We therefore request patients to include a note with such requests in order that we can process your prescription.  A note can be added on both the request form on our sebsite and via the confirmation of request page on the waiting room.

As a busy practice it is impossible to telephone patients every time we have been unable to process a repeat medicine request because it has been made too early although we do record the reason that this was declined.  By including a note with this request, it will save you having to contact us for a second time.

If we were to process every request made over a week before the next due date, it would be possible for a patient to receive 12  months supply of medication in 9 months.

This practice policy is implemented for patient safety.
